Chinese Manufacturer Claims to Have ‘Permanently Cracked” Lighting Cable

Apple Lightning Connector Cable

A Chinese accessory maker claims to have “permanently” cracked the authentication feature built into the Lightning Cable and iOS 7. The manufacturer iPhone5mod has already offered non-Apple approved Lightning accessories last year. Now they claim to have a solution that keeps the iOS 7 warning away when using uncertified Lightning cables.

The Lightning crack is said to be hardware based. According to iPhone5mod, Apple cannot undo the crack without reworking its own hardware. They are confidant and are offering money back guarantees.

At the moment they list five cables on their homepage as “for iOS 7.” They included a Lightning cable, two iPhone 5 docks, and a Lightning extension cable.
