The major US retailer Wal-Mart is attempting to speed up customer checkouts through a self-service checkout app called Scan & Go.
Reuters got the scoop today that Wal-Mart would be starting this initiative after Wal-Mart invited Apple employees to a store in Rogers, Arkansas to do a test for the application. The app pushes shoppers to scan their own items with their smartphone, and then pay through a credit card stored in the app. This is supposed to increase the efficiency of shopping at the retailer’s locations.
All of the effort is to speed your way through the checkout so that we can reduce costs and improve the shopping experience. With smartphones and improved technology we’re only going to see more of this.
The app also lets shoppers create shopping lists to use while they are in the store.
