Amazon has officially announced their new Fire phone, it’s a smartphone device aimed to compete in the very cutthroat business of handsets. This could potentially pose a serious threat to Apple.
PC Mag did a spec breakdown of Amazon’s Fire Phone in comparison to the iPhone 5S and the results are deafening.
The Amazon Fire Phone carries a 2.2ghz quad-core Snapdragon processor and a 4.7 inch screen – something that the iPhone 6 is rumored to support – and it runs on an Android operating system with Amazon’s own specialized app store.
Early impressions seem to be extremely positive of Amazon’s phone and this could pose a threat for Apple given that the Fire Phone carries a $199 price point at carriers and has slightly better specs than the iPhone 5S.
With proper positioning and marketing (and that’s not a hard thing for Amazon to achieve) the iPhone could see an unlikely rival in the Fire Phone. The real question is whether or not people will be willing to attempt to give up the Apple brand for Amazon?
