iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 4S vs World’s Thinnest Smartphone (Images)

The iPhone 5 has been compared to the Samsung Galaxy S3, its predecessor the iPhone 4s, and the world’s thinnest smartphone, the Oppo Finder.

Pitting the unannounced device against the Oppo Finder is particularly interesting what with the latter being the world’s thinnest smartphone; it’s certainly a good idea as to how thin the iPhone 5 will be.

Apple will announce the iPhone 5 during a press conference on September 12th, while a release follows a week later on the 21st.

    Borrowed from Gabriel Proulx:

This claim is based on the fact that the iPhone 5 is thinnest all-around. The camera bump on the Oppo Finder and all other phones mentioned in this article are greater that 7.6mm (I used a little image editing and extrapolate judging by the width of the rest of the Oppo Finder a couple weeks when pondering this very question). Phones dimensions need to be judged at their thickest point. This not only makes logical sense (otherwise you could make a phone that tapers to 1mm and call it the thinnest phone), but it is also what the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority ruled regarding the iPhone 4 being the thinnest phone at the time even though the Samsung Galaxy S was generally thinner, except for it’s hump. So, in summary. The iPhone 5′s thickest point is thinner than the Oppo Finder’s thickest point. Therefore it is a valid claim. Some people may debate and say that humps and camera bumps shouldn’t count, but that ends up being a matter of opinion. At the end of the day, if there was a 7.61mm crack you needed to slide a phone through, only one phone would make it, and that is the point they are making.
