iPhone 5 Screw Possibly Outed

A picture posted on Reddit revealed the potential new type of screw used in the iPhone 5. It is notable because there are no known tools developed to work on them.

The Reddit post in question says that a friend took the photo at a certain “fruit company.”

If the image is real, and these are the new screws for the iPhone ,5 it means a lot to repair shops and those that want to do anything to the internals. The asymmetrical screws have no known tools and are designed that way.

We have no way of verifying if the image is legitimately Apple, but they do have a history of proprietary screws. iFixit, who make repair guides and teardown analysis, in particular has a gripe with Apple on that front, slamming Apple for switching to Pentalobular screws in the iPhone 4 and called the new MacBook Pro with Retina display one of the least repairable laptops they have ever encountered.
