Apple has apparently asked for 30% of Samsung’s income with ongoing legal battles between the pair.
Multiple legal sources have stated to The Korea Times that on Wednesday, Apple’s legal representatives plan to ask U.S. Federal Judge Lucy Koh for $3 billion in damages from Samsung.
3 billion is a lot of dough for any major company and if Apple does in fact choose to ask for $3 billion in damages, it would be the largest ever payment sought in a technology patent dispute. Back in August, a jury had already determined that Samsung had infringed on Apple’s patents and recommended damages be paid to the tune of $1.05 billion. Apple wasn’t happy enough with that amount and takes patent infringement very seriously.
Samsung will really feel the pain if this trial doesn’t go their way and will need to sell a lot more devices to help cover the costs.
A hearing between the two companies is scheduled for Sept. 21.
