It seems as though the drama between Samsung and Apple will not die anytime soon. Samsung now plans to add Apple’s iPhone 5 to existing patent lawsuits and will seek further legal action to the retail giant.
According to Reuters:
Samsung Electronics Co plans to add Apple Inc’s iPhone 5 to existing patent lawsuits against its U.S. rival, stepping up its legal challenge to Apple as the two smartphone leaders seek to assert rights to key technologies.
In case you missed it, Samsung and Apple are locked in patent battles in 10 different countries and the stakes are high as the two companies vie for top spot in the ever-escalating smartphone market. Consumers have flocked to the smartphone market over the past couple of years and both companies are craving a bigger piece of the pie.
Heading into the Holiday season, both Samsung and Apple are jockeying for a better position and have decided to take things to the next level and are bringing major lawsuits with them.
Samsung had the following to say in a statement on Thursday:
Apple continues to take aggressive legal measures that will limit market competition.
Under these circumstances, we have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights.
It will be interesting to see how things play out and it doesn’t look like these two companies are going to back down anytime soon. With all these lawsuits and patent issues, the end of this situation could get ugly and I wonder if Apple and Samsung will ever be able to come to a middle ground.
