Wondering whether or not to upgrade to the iPhone 7? We’re doing a side-by-side comparison of Apple’s two smartphones, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s.

Design

Both phones look very similar and sport a Series 7000 aluminium body, except the iPhone 7 is IP67 dust and water resistance, which means it can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes, but it is missing a 3.5mm headphone jack. While this may be a deal breaker for some, Apple does include a 3.5mm to Lightning adapter in the box.

The dimension on the phones are also very similar, the iPhone 7 is 138.3 × 67.1 × 7.1mm (5.44 × 2.64 × 0.28in) and 138g (4.87oz) while the iPhone 6s is 138.3 × 67.1 × 7.1mm (5.44 × 2.64 × 0.28in) and 142g (5.04oz).

The iPhone 6s features a tangible Home Button, while the iPhone 7 has a touch sensitive surface with haptic feedback. The iPhone 7 also has redesigned antenna lines in order for the device to have a cleaner look, and stereo speakers.

Display

The iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch LED-backlit LCD, 1334 × 750 pixels (326ppi), 65.6 percent screen-to-body ratio which is the same as the iPhone 6s, and both phones feature 3D Touch. However, Apple has added support for a wider color gamut, better color management, and increased the brightness on the iPhone 7 by 25 percent.

Performance

The iPhone 6s features Apple’s A9 chip, CPU: Dual-core 1.84 GHz Twister:GPU: Power VR GT7600, and 2GB of RAM, while the iPhone 7 has Apple’s A10 Fusion chip: Quad core CPU, Six Core GPU, and 2GB of RAM. The iPhone 6s proved to be faster than Android’s latest flagship phone in certain benchmarks, but the iPhone 7 claims to deliver 40 – 50 percent better performance than the iPhone 6s.

Camera

The iPhone 7 will now be able to take photos in low light situations and captures photos with better color accuracy. The iPhone 7 has a rear 12MP camera, f/1.8 aperture, Focus Pixels, Optical Image Stabilization, quad-LED (dual tone) flash, 4K video, and a front camera that is 7MP with f/2.2 aperture, and 1080p recording. As for the iPhone 6s it has a rear 12MP camera, f/2.2 aperture, Focus Pixels, Software Image Stabilization, dual-LED flash, 4K video, and a front camera that is 5MP with f/2.2 aperture, and 720p video recording.

Battery

Both phones have a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the iPhone 7 has slightly better battery life than the iPhone 6s. The iPhone 7 has an 1,960mAh battery, while the iPhone 6s has an 1,715mAh.

Storage, Price And Colors

The iPhone 7 comes in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options, while the iPhone 6s is available in 32GB and 128GB. The iPhone 7 starts at $649 for the 32GB and the iPhone 6s starts at $549. Both iPhones ship in Gold, Rose Gold, and Silver, the only difference is the iPhone 6s comes in Space Gray and the iPhone 7 comes in black and Jet Black.

Whether the iPhone 7 is worth upgrading to is up to you. For some people the phone is worth trying out, while others plan on waiting for Apple to release its 2017 iPhone.
