
With the upgrade of Apple devices to iOS 6, Google’s native app’s data was dropped. They are working on a map app for iOS 6 to be released soon. In the meantime Google has updated their web app to include Google Street View.
With Apple’s own map app floundering, Google has announced they are adding Street View to their web app. They are taking the opportunity to bring their smartphone experience closer to what they already do on the web. Google Street View allows users to navigate panoramic, street-level imagery of locations and routes, now while on the go. It went live today.
So while Google has been having minor trouble with Apple and getting their services on Apple’s products, it seems like they may have struck a long-term victory. With people in need of a reliable map service on their mobile devices, Google comes in at just the right time.
Apple has been taking a beating over its map application to the extent that CEO Tim Cook wrote an open letter to apologize for it as well as suggestion back up applications in the mean time.
