Back in 2008 when they introduced their App Store, Apple campaigned on the slogan “there’s an app for that.” It has only become truer as the years have gone on. What started by making small tasks like counting calories and calculating a tip easier, now has entered the real world of locking your front door.
Apigy’s new Lockitron dead bold cover has given your iPhone the ability to lock and unlock your door. Apigy is a company known for its work with smartphone controlled locks and have just revealed their latest product: Lockitron. IT’s a device that attaches to your current deadbolt and via Wi-Fi you can unlock your door with your iPhone. And you can do it from anywhere in the world since it connects to your houses Wi-Fi network.
You can use the Lockitron app to lock or unlock the door, but if you have a Bluetooth 4.0 device you can also set it up to unlock automatically as you approach it. It will also send you alerts on the status of your deadbolt.
Apigy is currently taking pre-orders for Lockitron at a price point of $149 for a limited time. Plans are to start shipping it in March 2013. I’m just in awe that this is where we are.
