Apple’s Maps App is Showing Improvement

Apple is making good on Tim Cook’s promise regrading the shortcomings of the new Maps application. He said that Apple “will keep working non-stop” until the iOS 6 Mapps app meets their customers’ standards of quality.

In particular, users from MacRumors forum are starting to notice an improvement in the 3D aspect of Apple’s Maps app. Landmarks, like the Statue of Liberty (see below), and buildings that were once missing from the flyover mode are back on the map.

Users have also noted new imagery showing up in Honolulu, Los Angeles and London in addition to the Big Apple. Not all users are seeing the new imagery, however. Different devices are coming up with different results. Most likely this is due to aggressive caching of maps and imagery; it should correct itself in the near future.

I saw an article like this a few days ago. I was not able to see the statue of liberty. Now i checked and it’s there. I see it perfectly on my iPhone 5. I am also able to see the Williamsburgh Bridge, which looked horrible and was all over the news in the NY area at how horrible it looked. I guess maps is fixing itself slowly but surely. Way to go apple keep the good work.
