Apple Was Warned About Crappy Map App For iOS

You know that crappy map app that came bundled with iOS 6 for the iPhone 5? Well, turns out that Apple was warned well in advance about how crappy the app was before it launched.

According to CNET, developers had taken to Apple’s developer forums to warn the technology giant about how terrible their map app was, with one developer who wished to remain anonymous, saying…

“During the beta period I filed bug reports with Apple’s Radar system (notorious for being ignored), posted on the forums several times, and e-mailed multiple people within Apple’s MapKit team to voice our concerns,”

That wasn’t the only complaint that Apple received regarding how useless their map app was and what needed to be fixed before it would become a usable app for millions of consumers the world around. According to one developer…

“I posted at least one doomsayer rant after each (developer) beta, and I wasn’t alone,” a developer with three iOS apps in the App Store told CNET. “The mood amongst the developers seemed to be that the maps were so shockingly bad that reporting individual problems was futile. What was needed wasn’t so much an interface for reporting a single point as incorrect, but for selecting an entire region and saying ‘all of this — it’s wrong.’”

The map app later caused Apple to make a public apology about how terrible the app really is back in September, and thankfully they’ve been making improvements to the app to better reflect the high price of entry for the iPhone 5.
