iPhone 6 to Feature Theft Detector

Newer iPhones could come equipped with anti-theft devices that alert people when their phones have been hijacked from right out of their hands, coat, pocket or purse.

Over at Apple Insider they’re reporting that Apple has filed a patent for tech that will enable iPhone users to turn on the detector and make a number of changes to sensitivity and movement, so that it doesn’t go off when you pick up the phone to answer a call or your friend accesses your iDevice.

The device will make use of the iPhone’s advanced accelerometer as a gauge to determine if a theft is taking place. Because of this, it’s expected that the theft detector won’t be available for older iPhone models but it could be possible to see the anti-theft alert available in newer handsets such as the iPhone 6 perhaps.
