Samsung called senior Designer Jeeyuen Wang to the stand recently in an effort to refute claims that Samsung copied the layout and imagery of iOS.
Despite internal Samsung documents comparing the iPhone side-by-side with Samsung’s very own Galaxy S, Wang states that the icons and UI assets were actually not copied. She did admit that she looked at products from other companies though, but that it was all part of the design process.
Once Apple got a chance to speak on the issue, it introduced more internal Samsung documents that studied the effectiveness of its iconography changes from 2007 to 2011. In places the document highlights differences between iOS icons and Samsung’s own Touchwiz icons. When asked about the 132-page “relative evaluation report,” Wang responded by saying that she had never seen the report.
Despite the evidence presented to Wang, she states all of the icons are original work. Before exiting the stand Wang stated that hundreds of people around the world worked very hard on the look of the icons in Touchwiz, and that she herself only slept two or three hour nights.
