Apple’s Project Titan Self-driving Testbed Spotted Out Driving

Apple’s Project Titan, self-driving Lexus RX450h SUV has been spotted on the road in the Silicon Valley area, as extensive testing is being carried out.

It seems Apple’s self-driving test vehicle Project Titan is up and moving these days, the white Lexus RX450h SUV was spotted out and about equipped with standard third-party sensors and other hardware. About one month ago, Apple obtained a permit from the state of California to start testing its self-driving vehicles in California. At this point, Apple is keeping all data that is recorded, top-secret.

It seems that the test vehicle is heavily equipped for data purposes, the white Lexus was spotted with a Velodyne LiDAR 64-channel unit mounted on the Lexus roof, and radar arrays are positioned on the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle, as well as mounted protective cameras on the exterior of the SUV, which offers a 360 degree of the self-driving Lexus surroundings.

Some are beginning to speculate that Apple just might scrap the entire developing and building its own vehicle, and concentrate on building autonomous software for futuristic vehicles. At this point, Apple has declined to make comments on the current status of Project Titan.
