Apple App Store Developers Have Earned Over $70 Billion

Need a reason to make apps for iOS devices? Well, Apple has 70 billion reasons why developers should create apps for the App Store.

While we’re less than a week away from Apple hosting its WWDC in San Jose, California, the company has recently announced that developers have earned over $70 billion since the App Store launched in 2008. The App Store sales could have passed $100 billion given that Apple takes a 30 percent cut of App Store sales.

Over the past year, downloads have increased over 70 percent which has mainly been led by the Gaming and Entertainment categories. In addition, Lifestyle apps and Health and Fitness apps have also seen a 70 percent growth in the past year and categories of apps such as photos and videos were able to see a 90 percent increase in that same time.

“People everywhere love apps and our customers are downloading them in record numbers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Seventy billion dollars earned by developers is simply mind-blowing. We are amazed at all of the great new apps our developers create and can’t wait to see them again next week at our Worldwide Developers Conference.”

Apple will be hosting developers from around the world this upcoming Monday at its WWDC. The company is expected to highlight new versions of its operating systems and unveil a few devices.
