Samsung Says no to HTC Style Settlement With Apple

Last week, Apple and HTC reached a global settlement in patent litigation, Samsung says it will not do the same.

Apple and HTC were able to reach a settlement to put to rest a number of patent lawsuits. HTC will pay Apple between $6-8 per handset sold or about $280 million a year. They have also signed a 10-year cross-licensing patent deal.

This news sparked hope there would be a similar settlement between Apple and their South Korean rival. Instead a news report from Yonhap news reveals the exact opposite. Samsung executive Shin Jong-kyun: “It may be true that HTC may have agreed to pay 300 billion wan ($276 million US) to Apple, but we don’t intend to (negotiate) at all.”

While Apple managed to win a $1 billion victory in the US, Samsung was able to pull significant wins in the UK and Japanese courts. So, Samsung and Apple’s worldwide patent war continues.
