The moment has finally arrived, Apple has unveiled the much rumored iPhone X alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus today at its annual iPhone event.
In honor of the iPhone’s tenth anniversary, Apple switched things up by hosting the event at its new Steve Jobs Theater and by introducing not two but three iPhones. The most special iPhone of them all is the iPhone X which has been designed to look and sport features that no other iPhone has ever had.
This one-of-a-kind iPhone features Face ID which uses an infrared camera system on the front of the device to scan the user’s face to unlock the device and authorize mobile payments. The device features 12MP telephoto rear lenses and a 7MP front-facing camera
The iPhone X will sport a new OLED display which is thinner, brighter and lighter than an LCD display. The 5.8-inch Super Retina screen has an edge-to-edge display which eliminates the Home Button Apple has used on its previous devices for years.
When using the device, users will have to adjust to swiping more since there is no longer a Home Button. If you’re inside an app, rather than pressing a button, you’ll have to swipe the screen upwards to return to the home screen. If you swipe and hold the app for a second or two, you’ll be able to reveal all your open apps to switch back and forth between them. To access the Control Center, simply swipe down. By pressing and holding the side button you’ll be able to access Siri, and double clicking the side button will bring up Apple Pay.
There’s a new Portrait mode called Portrait Lighting that offers high-end lighting effects. There’s also something that’s called Animoji which lets you send 12 different animated emoji that copy your facial expresses to send via iMessage.
As for the inside specs, the device sports Apple’s new A11 Bionic chip with a faster four core CPU which is 70 percent faster than the A10 Fusion chip and a GPU which is 30 percent faster than the A10 chip. The device supports wireless charging and Augmented Reality.
The iPhone X features a durable glass body, wireless charging and is water and dust resistant. The iPhone X comes in two colors: Silver and Space Gray. Users can purchase the 64GB model for $999 or the 256GB model for $1,149. Pre-orders start October 27th and will ship out November 3rd.
