Apple’s App Store Breaks Another Sales Record

Apple is celebrating the record-breaking numbers it saw with its App Store on New Year’s day. The company was able to break last year’s record by 25 percent.

In a press release, Apple stated that it had a successful holiday season. Between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day, users spent $890 million on apps. New Year’s Day alone was able to bring in $300 million, which is 25 percent more than last year’s $240 million.

Apple said the reason for the growth in sales is due to the creative developers and redesigned App Store. Apple also introduced some changes last year, which included improved developer tools, and a new way for third-party apps to make money.

“We are thrilled with the reaction to the new App Store and to see so many customers discovering and enjoying new apps and games,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “We want to thank all of the creative app developers who have made these great apps and helped to change people’s lives. In 2017 alone, iOS developers earned $26.5 billion – more than a 30 percent increase over 2016.”

Apple also stated that iOS developers made $26.5 billion in 2017 which is up from last year’s earnings by 30 percent. In total, developers have earned over $86 billion since the App Store first opened in 2008. Some of the most popular apps have been Pokémon Go, CSR Racing 2, Stack AR, King of Pool, Amazon, Wayfair, Night Sky, Thomas & Friends Minis, Pitu, and Snapchat.
