Consumer Reports published its annual rankings of major US wireless carriers and like last year AT&T came in last for customer satisfaction.
While it has become somewhat of an adage that AT&T has poor service, according to the report they had the least amount of complaints with regards to their 4G service. This despite Verizon having the most robust 4G network. Verizon did land the top spot in terms of voice and data service quality. Sprint was in second and t-Mobile in third. Both received average ratings.
In an interesting turn, smaller carriers like U.S. Cellular and Credo Mobile received better scores for customer satisfaction that the big four carries. For instance, U.S. Cellular has an overall customer satisfaction score of 88% while none of the big four could rank better than 72%. The magazine found that this is part to the growing popularity of no-contract plans that save more than $20 a month and that some smaller carriers offer.
Of course results vary by region. AT&T fares better in certain metropolitan areas than the other carriers do.
