An analyst believes the iPhone 5 will be the biggest electronics product release in history.
Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster said the unannounced device will break the records in order to make history.
While predicting the timing of the iPhone release is topical for investors, we continue to believe that whether iPhone 5 launches in the September or December quarter is largely irrelevant to the overall story, which we believe is that the new phone will be the largest consumer electronics product upgrade in history.
The analyst also predicts Apple will sell between 6 million and 10 million units during product’s launch month alone, with total sales for this quarter potentially reaching 28 million units.
Others believe that the iPhone 5 will sell a quarter of a billion units during its lifetime, with Apple expected to become the first company in history that could be valued at trillion dollar due to the iOS device.
Touting the iPhone 5′s expectations as high would be a massive understatement. Try astronomical expectations. That said, Apple has generated hundreds of billions with their iOS devices thus far (with a large majority being attributed to the iPhone’s line-up), so it’s not far fetched to believe that the iPhone 5 can best the commercial success of its predecessors.
