Apple has started construction on its Santa Clara campus as it creates two new office buildings.
Apple leased the 296,000 sq. foot property from developer Peery Arrillaga. Sources claim that they have demolished the existing structures to makes way for the new two new office buildings more suited to the company’s needs. Both of the new buildings will be over six stories tall.
The Santa Clara campus is suppose to house 1,200 employees in the future, but there is some speculation that this is for their existing workforce. Their Campus 2 in Cupertino, which is being built on a former HP lot, could have its completion date pushed back to 2016.
The long term lease for the Santa Clara campus is possibly up to 10 years in length. In that case these two buildings could be in use even after the second campus is building Cupertino. The buildings under construction in Santa Clara will be completed in 2014 and will be about 108,000 sq. feet in size.
