According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple may be considering producing a less expensive model of the HomePod in the future due to below market expectations.
It seems Apple’s smart speaker isn’t selling as well as expected, Ming-Chi Kuo recently stated that Apple may have an estimated sell between 2 million and 2.5 million through the rest of this year, which is said to be far below market expectations.
It’s not clear if the estimated figures of sales for this year includes the additional HomePod sales that will be available in late spring in France and Germany. Kuo believes that the HomePod isn’t selling well among non-Apple fans, and that Apple’s software quality is lagging behind its competition. Kuo stated Apple may be considering the idea of producing a lower priced HomePod in the future to provide a short-term boost with its smart speaker. He also went on to state that we as the consumer shouldn’t get to excited over this recent news because Apple is still mulling over this idea.
