Just recently Apple has determined that some 13-inch MacBook Pros (non-Touch Bar) will be eligible for a free battery replacement, under the worldwide Apple battery replacement program.
The new battery replacement program will be offered to a limited selection of 13-inch MacBook Pros without the Touch Bar that were manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017, Apple will determine if the device is eligible by the serial number as well.
In order to find out if your device is eligible, owners of the 13-inch MacBook Pro can visit apple.com and put in their serial number to see if their MacBook Pro qualifies for the free battery replacement.
The issue with a certain number of MacBook Pros has to do with a component feature that can fail and cause the built-in battery to expand.
Apple has provided a replacement process which will allow a few options for the customer to choose from, first the MacBook Pro will be examined before any services are performed, the device will be verified that it is eligible for this program and it is in working order. Next, the customer has the option to either find an authorized service provider or make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, if the customer chooses this method, the device will be sent to the Apple Repair Center, and the last option the customer can mail the device to the Apple Repair Center.
It should be noted that the worldwide Apple program doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the 13-inch MacBook Pro.
