On June 4th, Apple presented tvOS 12 and its latest features at its 2018 WWDC annual keynote event.
Right after the introduction, Apple seeded the first beta of tvOS 12 to developers for testing purposes. The public beta of tvOS 12 is said to be available by the end of June and will officially be released this fall.
tvOS 12 will bring support for Dolby Atmos, which Apple states will offer the largest collection of Dolby Atmos supported movies anywhere. With this newly supported feature, viewers can expect iTunes to also debut this coming fall, which will include free 4K HDR upgrades to previously purchased movies in customers’ iTunes libraries.
With tvOS 12, Apple TV 4K will be the only streaming player both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos certified, which will deliver the highest quality cinematic experience offering stunning 4K HDR visuals and quality sound that flows all around.
Other features offered with tvOS 12 are AutoFill passwords which allow users to easily sign in to Apple TV apps from their iPhone and iPad to Apple TV. The Apple TV Remote will be automatically be added to Control Center on iPhone or iPad for Apple TV users to give users quick access to Apple TV controls. Users can expect home control systems like Control4, Crestron, and Savant to control Apple TV as well as using Siri for voice search and control.
