FDA Approves AliveCor iPhone Heart Monitor

A new heart monitor from AliveCor has been officially approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The heart monitor that attaches to iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S handsets will become available for purchase next-month, with pre-orders going live right now.

Med Gadget reported on the approval from the FDA for the AliveCor, which is a Class II device that has a self-powered case that attaches to the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S.

According to Mobile Mag, the AliveCor can record, display, store, transfer and evaluate singe channel electrocardiogram (ECG) rhythms.

By simply placing your fingers on the back of the device onto the electrodes, the AliveCor will read, monitor and evaluate your heart patterns.

The AliveCor is available for pre-order right now and will be available for purchase for the general public for only $199.99.
