50 Billionth iOS App Revealed

Apple announced Thursday that the 50billionth app was Say the Same Thing by Space Inch.The $10,000 gift card will go to Brandon Ashmore from Mentor, Ohio. That achievement counted only unique downloads, excluding re-downloads or installing updates.

 The App Store contains over 850,000 apps with about 350,000 of them native to the iPad. Apple said that people are downloading more than 800 apps a second, which translates to more than 2 billion app a month.

 Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services had this to say:

Apple would like to thank our incredible customers and developers for topping 50 billion apps downloaded. The App Store completely transformed how people use their mobile devices and created a thriving app ecosystem that has paid out over nine billion dollars to developers. We’re absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years.

The App Store milestone was reached Wednesday morning. It is the latest in a long line of impressive achievements. Congratulations of Mr. Ashmore.
