The buggy old version of the Facebook iOS app is no more. A complete rewrite of the app has drastically increased its speed and useability.
iOS 6, the latest version of iOS and the version that is going to be on the iPhone 5, has been designed to have complete Facebook integration, and Facebook has updated its current app to help facilitate that. Previous versions of the Facebook app on iOS were commonly buggy and slow, even on the already powerful iPhone 4S. The new iPhone is going to be far more powerful than its predecessor, so Facebook decided to rework the app to facilitate that.
MacRumors spoke with Facebook’s iOS mobile product manager:
People have different expectations when it comes to using Facebook for iOS, they expect a level of performance and speed that just wasn’t there.
Of course the rework of the app will benefit iPhone 4 and 4S users as well, but this update could be geared towards making Facebook’s product run buttery smooth on the iPhone 5 more than anything.
We are sure we’ll find out when the app downloaded is downloaded on to thousands of new iPhones on the 21st of September.
